PRESENTATION
Aerocentro
de Colombia, the
Aeronautic Instruction Center,
with more than 35 years of
experience in the industry, and
the Colombian Civil Aeronautics,
through the Aeronautical
Studies CenterCEA, have
identified the need to widen the
range of industry knowledge for Colombia
and the region of contiguous
Spanish speaking countries. Based
on this, they have subscribed an
academic cooperation agreement
oriented towards the
professionalization of the
industry through specific
Continued Education programs.
JUSTIFICATION
Colombia
is a country with an extension of
1,141,748 km2, with
coasts on the Atlantic and the
Pacific oceans, strategically
positioned in the north-western
corner of South America, and as
such, its a terrestrial, maritime
and aerial crossroad among the
countries of the south and north
hemispheres and of Europe.
|
 |
Internally, five
main regions- Atlantic, Pacific,
Andean, Orinoquia and Amazon
compose the country. The
terrestrial communication is done
through some roads, few
railroads, and limited or no
fluvial navigation, which has
placed the aviation, through
history, as the main engine for
the development of cargo and
passenger transportation
throughout the nation.
The
aeronautic industry, one of the
oldest of the world and the first
one of the continent, generates,
actually, around 25,000 direct
jobs, and 30,000 indirect in the
public and private sectors.
Paradoxically, it has only been
in the past few years that the
country has become aware of the
need to offer academic
specialized training.
|
|
Colombia is considered as one of
the main countries in Latin
America with regards to aerial
transportation; during the year
2000 it transported approximately
8,000,000 national passengers and
3,000,000 international
passengers, as well as 100,000
tons of cargo- basically of
international cargo. The main
segment is determined by
perishable cargo that must be
transported far away such
is the case of flowers whose main
market is in Europe, because of
which the transportation must be
done by plane in order to
maintain the quality levels.
|
 |
At the same time, Colombia has an
exceptional geographic and
political position, and as result
it must maintain a highly
competitive and efficient aerial
transportation infrastructure,
that allows the country to
fulfill the required standard
levels of aerial security at a
regional level.
The
identification and dimension of
the issues mentioned above,
request the need to establish
academic programs both at the
formation as well as at the
research levels in the different
areas of the aeronautic sector.
As
a result of all this, an
agreement of Academic Cooperation
between Aerocentro and the CEA
Aeronautical Studies Center, is
established to begin a series of
programs previously identified in
order to develop the industry.
Its main goal is the search for
operational excellence, which
will allow Colombia to position
itself among the best counties in
the region with respect to the
aeronautic topic.
